How to Fix Blank, Dark, or Overexposed Photo Booth Pictures

Guests standing in position for a photo booth picture.

Because our photo booth uses a DSLR camera paired with an overhead flash light, getting bright, crisp pictures requires proper positioning. If a photo turns out completely white, dark, or blurry, it is almost always related to focus and timing!

Here are three simple things to check:

  1. Step into Place First: Always have your group step into position in front of the lens before tapping "Start" on the screen. If someone taps start while walking up or standing off to the side, the camera focuses on the wall or background behind you. When the studio flash fires, guests who stepped in late will appear completely washed out (white) or out of focus.

  2. Look Up at the Camera Lens: Remind your guests to look up at the camera lens inside the booth shell—marked with indicator arrows—rather than looking down at the touchscreen display when the countdown finishes.

  3. Avoid Blocking Light & Sensors: Ensure guests aren't holding large props or signs directly in front of the camera lens, and keep the path between the overhead flash umbrella and the guests clear.

If photos continue to turn out incorrectly after guests are positioned before starting the timer, please contact Show-Me Soirees using the contact details from your booking confirmation!
